Christine – Levin

After moving to Speldhurst Village Levin in 2024 I wanted to get involved in my new community, meet people outside the village and make some new friends.

I’d lived in Upper Hutt for 48 years and been involved in voluntary work for 45 years of those, ever since my first child was born – so helping others has always been a big part of my life.

A new friend told me about Altrusa and it sounded interesting.

I went along to my first dinner meeting in February and was warmly welcomed by the greeter. When she heard my name she realised that she had gone to primary school in Utiku with my husband. She also lives in Speldhurst so we have shared many fun “remember who and when” conversations since.

I enjoy the fun, food and friendship we share as well as the variety of projects organised by the committees.

I also like the mix of ages as it gives Altrusa Levin good energy and wide experience.

I’d never paid to belong to a voluntary organisation before but joining Altrusa has shown me that there is more to belonging to a group like this.

It is not just about volunteering – it’s about connecting, learning & feeling part of a special group.
